The Second World War was the largest armed and bloody conflict of the world history, which faced the Allied Powers and the Axis Powers, between 1939 and 1945. Armed forces from over seventy countries took part in fighting air, naval and land. Due to this war around two percent of the world total population amount died (about 60 millions of people, three times the Venezuela´s populations) mostly of them were civilians. It started in Europe de first of September of 1939, but for some historians it began in Asia the seventh of July of 1937, and ended officially around the second of September of 1945.
The most immediate causes to the outbreak of the conflict are: the 1939 invasion of Poland by the Germans, Japanese attacks against China, the United States, British and Dutch colonies in Asia. The World War 2 broke out after these aggressive actions were responded with a war declaration or an armed resistance by the affected countries. As the war progressed, the countries that were entering the conflict (as volunteer or being attacked) lined up in one of the two sides, depending on their own situation.
On September 1 of 1939, Germany invaded Poland, using the pretext of a simulated attack on a Polish German border. The Plains Polish offered an advantage for the movement of armored Germans, but the forests and poorly constructed roads implied problems that made the Nazi progress difficult. Germany advanced by using the blitzkrieg (Thunder War). The UK and France gave Germans two days to withdraw and leave Poland. Once the deadline passed on September 3, the UK, Australia and New Zealand declared war to Germany, quickly followed by France, South Africa and Canada.
After the conquest of Poland, in the winter of 1939 – 1940, Germany took a pause to regroup its troops, while British and French remained on the defensive. Journalists called this period the war joke, because there was almost no fighting. During this period, the Soviet Union attacked Finland on November 30 of 1939, this action started the Winter War. Despite to overpass the Finnish troops in numbers of 4 to 1 the Red Army found that the attack became very difficult and embarrassing, the strong Finnish defense could avoid a complete invasion in its territory.
On August 6 of 1945, a B-29 Superfortress, launched an atomic bomb nicknamed Little Boy on Hiroshima, destroying the city. On August 9, three days later, a B-29 called Bockscar launched the second atomic bomb, nicknamed Fat Man on the port city of Nagasaki, both Japanese cities.
On august 14 Japan was signing the surrender pact, after has received what is consider the biggest and most mortal attack in the human history. In the other part of the world, in Europe, Hitler and his Nazi Army were being exterminated by a group of countries leathered by Russia and United States. Germans surrendered on April 1945, by then, Hitler, all his family and closest officer had already suicide.
